We are in South Africa. POPIA is the law we work under. If you are in the EU/UK you can still ask for access, correction, deletion, and to stop — we will honour that. This page is an operating notice, not legal advice.
Who is responsible
Gerrit Giliomee is the Responsible Party and Information Officer-designate.
Loerie is an automated assistant (a bot). A human oversees what the bot cannot handle.
What we collect
- Email you send to loerie@knysna.io, and our replies
- Names, organisations, roles, projects, places, needs and offers you tell us about
- Whether you want something listed, kept private, or taken down
- Technical cookies needed to run the site (session and security). We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
We do not want ID numbers, banking details, health information, or anything about children. If that arrives, we do not keep the detail.
Why
To build a living, consented map of who is doing what in Greater Knysna, so people and organisations can find each other and not duplicate work.
Nothing about a person is public until they have said yes to a specific listing. You get a review link to see a draft and choose what is public vs private. Personal email addresses and phone numbers are never published.
Who sees it
- Gerrit Giliomee (and the bots that run this project, acting for him)
- You, when you ask "what do you hold on me" or open a review link
- The public, only the fields you OK for listing
We use these processors to run the service: Cloudflare (DNS, site, inbound mail routing), Laravel Cloud (hosting), SMTP2GO (outbound email once a human has approved a send), and Gmail (a copy of inbound mail for Gerrit). Some of that may be outside South Africa.
How long
Raw email is kept about 12 months, then reduced to a summary. Map records stay until you ask us to delete or stop, or they go stale and we mark them unverified.
Your choices
- Reply stop and we do not write again
- Ask what do you hold on me and we tell you
- Ask us to correct or delete
- Ask us to take down a public listing

Children
This project is not for anyone under 18. We do not email people we believe are under 18.
